Rooted in Legacy.
Rising in Purpose.
United in Sisterhood.
For over 157 years, the United Order of Tents has empowered African American women through faith, community service, and an unbreakable bond of sisterhood — from the Civil War era to today.

President’s Greetings
Greetings in Sisterly Love,
It is with great joy and heartfelt appreciation that I welcome you on behalf of the Sisters of the Southern District No. 1, Incorporated, established in 1883. For more than a century, our beloved organization has stood as a beacon of benevolence, service, unity, and sisterhood.
Our commitment remains steadfast: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, to bring hope where it is needed most, and to serve our communities with compassion, purpose, and love. Through the dedication and support of our faithful Sisters, we continue to advance our four foundational objectives: Education, Missions, Rest Haven, and our Home Office.
As a benevolent fraternal organization, we are strengthened by the bonds of Sisterly Love and guided by a shared desire to uplift, encourage, and serve. Every act of kindness, every mission fulfilled, and every life touched reflects the heart of who we are.
We warmly invite you to learn more about our work, our legacy, and our commitment to service. There is a special place among us for those who desire fellowship, purpose, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact. Together, we can continue to shine light in our communities and build upon the proud foundation laid before us.
With open hearts and welcoming arms, we extend to you the spirit of Sisterly Love. Welcome.
